Would you like to see JSH go completely ballistic? The only way to achieve that is to abstain from replying to him. When you reply to him it is like throwing gasoline on to a fire. You will not out-wit him. You will not get him to admit he is wrong. He makes up the rules for himself as he goes along. He will always adapt the rules for each new situation he finds himself in. This should be obvious after more than twelve years of this con-game he's been playing. He only fears one thing, that's not having anyone responding to him. He is deathly afraid of that. He will do whatever he has to do to keep that from happening. You saw a little of that fear immediately after my last post where I mentioned that if everyone ceased responding to him he would become like a heroin junkie that suddenly lost his endless supply of heroin. That's when he began the "Assessing Group Opinion" thread where he actually asked direct questions, expecting direct answers from you. He is a self-acclaimed Narcissist. He's admitted to that many times. Narcissists know they have to use some means of getting and holding your attention. Mathematics is the conduit he uses to get your attention. That should also be obvious when he only uses 9th-grade Algebra to express his ideas with. If I can get others to understand one thing, it would be this: JSH doesn't really care what you have to say to him, whether it's positive or negative. His one and only concern is that you respond to him. You can say whatever you want to say, it doesn't matter, as long as you say it to him. All he wants is your undivided attention, to be the first thing you think about in the morning, and the last thing you think about before going to sleep each night. As long as you keep responding to him, you are doing nothing but fulfilling that dream of his.

You are confusing the term going "ballistic", ('to become overwrought or irrational') with the term going "postal", a slang term meaning 'to lose control or go crazy, esp. in a violent way.'

You mean we haven't seen him go completely ballistic already? Do you think that he could write anything more outrageous than the theory that evolution produced him in order to save humanity from a subspecies of parasitic priests? And even if he could write something that outrageous, why would I want to read it?

Exactly! And I say this as someone who has replied to him for years. Yes, it has been fun at times, but it is quite clear to me now that all I was doing was fueling his Narcissism. Now that he seems to be pushed to even greater extremes, I regret those posts. These posts were entertainment, but the entertainment is certainly not worth encouraging a man to destroy himself!
That is why I took the pledge:
"I pledge to not reply to any Jame Harris post that demonstrates narcissistic thinking, including conspiracy theories, plots for revenge, and grandiose thinking. I will only reply to a James Harris post if it presents ideas in a modest, respectable manner, and invites an open discussion of these ideas. "
The pledge might not lead James to get the help he so disparately needs. But every person who has taken the pledge can take comfort in making the situation any worse. I urge you to join us.

Well, not so he'll notice.

Or -- let's not kid ourselves -- writing about him.

Prompting replies is easy; everyone does that. Only outstanding Usenet kooks provoke people into starting whole new threads about them. Fredrico, you are in a "can't win" situation.
Under the rules, Usenet posts must be original, non-commercial, and on-topic for the group. There is no sanity requirement. Get the kooks off Usenet? No way. Where would they go?
actually it is quite easy, agree with part and say the other part is wrong, then when he gets social (stage 2 JSH) start cutting him down saying he is dumb, idiot, not smart never refering to his crummy math (he thinks he has an IQ of 197( it is reall ablut 90), then he will go into (Stage 3 JSH) - very short sentances double spaced very defensive full of poison.
Then he drops off line for a few months, and comes bacccck, he *keeps comming back*, like a dead horse. But all perkey (stage 1 JSH) with a new idea on the same old stuff that will never work. Like polishing part of a doorknob on a rusted out wrecked car.

JSH has you in his pocket. The thing that drives JSH is the *number of responses* to one of his posts and he tries to keep it going by whatever means. This is very hard to do, try it sometime. JSH has mastered it, he has us figured out, knows what to say and when. We are mere amebas basking in his reflected sunlight.

JSH is a state of mind. That is why it transforms itself according to math and events. JSH applies itself to everything, and yet it is nothing, it is the point where the yes and the no and all the opposites meet, not solemnly in the castles of human philosophies, but very simply at street corners, like dogs and grasshoppers.
Like everything in life, JSH is useless.
JSH is without pretension, as life should be.
Perhaps you will understand me better when I tell you that JSH is a virgin microbe that penetrates with the insistence of air into all the spaces that reason has not been able to fill with words or conventions.

Laws of nature dictate "the weak shall be devoured by the strong". So, burp, JSH is yesterday's burnt toast.

Unfortunately, he might go "ballistic" in the sense of starting using projectile weapons on people.

I think that's when it would fall under the informal term "going postal", which, I agree, would be most unfortunate.

OOPS! My bad. Of course, I meant to write "But every person who has taken the pledge can take comfort in *not* making the situation any worse." Sorry for any confusion.
