Wow! I found this on an OpenSUSE forum, and it WORKED!
Go into /etc/ppp/options and add these two lines.
# ipcp-max-configure 30
# ipcp-max-failure 20
And that's it. I rebooted for good measure, and air card works. I am
connected!
Fwiw, I had to go in as root and change the file from read-only. I am too
green as a Linux n00b to know another way to do it. Tried sudo from the
terminal but still couldn't do it without just logging in as root and
changing the permissions. To log in as root, I reset the password from the
terminal with "sudo passwd root" and then reboot. Easy peasey.
I'm sick at thinking about all the time I wasted today messing around with
this. But life is good again! Thanks to the very smart person who posted
to the OpenSUSE forum!
