David Spade says he has no regrets about resurrecting a classic scene from "Tommy Boy" -- featuring the late, great Chris Farley -- for a controversial DirecTV ad, telling TMZ that offending people was never his intention.
We got David outside Boa last night, where he told us Farley's family and the director of "Tommy Boy" all gave their seal of approval for the spot.
He wasn't lying -- Kevin Farley, Chris' bro, was there too and said the commercial was "an honor to my brother."

I guess his part in it. Nobody wins here.
It's like when the makeers of Tuck medicated pads wanted to use the Johnny Cash song "Ring Of Fire" ("Burns, burns, burns...") song to describe the burning sensation of the anal region and the relief you'd get using the product. The estate of JC didn't want to soil his memory (pardon the pun) and refused. They took the high road. The family of Farley sold out.

I don't understand this either. Nobody was ripping into Coors when they "exploited" John Wayne in their ads. How is this any different? Because its comedy? Because its David Spade?

Considering that the song talks about *falling into* a ring of fire, I sort of doubt they'd even consider using burn, burn, burn for their commercials.
Though there is that comedian who does a stint in his stand up, using brief portions of songs that would be perfect for various products, O'Shea I think his name is (he does a great Elmo, lol). He may have used the song in that... actually, he did:

Yeah, the "controversy" about this commercial ends and ceases to be when you realize his family OK'd it, thought it was a great idea and admit Chris would've found it funny they were doing this after he was dead.

Wait a minute. Farley was grotesquely obese, and was a drug addict, which finally killed him by overdose. He did a pretty good job of dishonoring and disrespecting himself. Note to family...take the money and run.

If the family of a dead druggie who OD on himself can make some money off of his memory, I guess it's a remarkable feat. No different than Elvis, I guess. Some how, I don't think Roman Polanski's estate won't be able ot recreate such fortunes once RoPo kicks the bucket.

You forgot to put "gread comedic legacy" in quotes. You're welcome!
-- It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad for them, it's failing.

Actually, I believe people did rip Coors. They also ripped that broommaker that used Fred Astaire in their ads a decade or more ago.
And, AFAIAC, they are right to...

The one I never heard much about was the one with Poltergeist, and that little girl. That was really creepy. I kinda liked the Coors commercial.
