Hardware problem - RAM or MOBO?
I just built a new machine and have been plagued with crashes. When I first ran MEMTEST on it, everything came out okay. Both sticks in bank 1 & 2 work fine (except for one set of errors when running it for 12 hours), and if they're in 3 & 4 they work fine, but in banks 2 & 4 I get errors. If I try one stick at a time in bank 1 or 2 they look... more »

microsoft.public.windowsxp.gen eral
My XP Pro system won't boot after I installed some applications. It won't boot to safe mode either. (After the Windows boot screen I get shown a "DOS" list of DLLs in System32 and my system hangs at this point.) I heard of various methods to recover XP Pro but I don't want to lose data or applications.... more »

Computer case problem/question
I purchased a NZXT Zero case and when I detached the front face to mount my optical drive the reset switch wire pulled free from the solder. How can I determine the wire order to resolder it back on? There are no visible markings on the switch and I can't find any info on their site. On a side note... what happens if I just leave the entire reset switch... more »

Mobo vs PS problem
I'm trying to conceive of the mechanism behind this hardware problem even if I decide to not repair it, I would like to have a better understanding of what is going on. I've brought this problem up here before in a different form. Here is the hardware: mobo ECS 741GX-M2 which is a AMD socket A using a... more »

P6T BIOS update - AHCI Q
I plan to update my P6T bios from v0202 to v0801 prior to a Windows 7 Install (weeks before). I've flashed a bios before, but never when dealing with the AHCI issue. When I built this rig I installed XP-SP3 in AHCI Mode with the correct BIOS setting and the AHCI drivers. My concern is that when I reset the BIOS to the defaults before flashing the... more »

Power supplies with solid polymer caps
I have read that electrolytic capacitors are the least reliable component in power supplies. I have also read that there are motherboards with solid polymer capacitors. Are there any power supplies with solid polymer capacitors? Thank you in advance for all replies.
